Mayra Matos is 20 years old and stands 5’10″ This Puerto Rican lady from Cabo Rojo won the Miss Puerto Rico 2009 title last October 22, 2008 at the Jose Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico. This time, the Miss Puerto Rico pageant was televised live by WAPA-TV.

Aside from the Miss Puerto Rico 2008 title, Mayra also won the “Beautiful Face Award.” Last month, there were some rumors that Mayra will be dethroned as Miss Puerto Rico 2009 titleholder. It was reported that she never signed a contract stating that she must not have participated in any international pageant that she won. If you will remember Mayra was the 2006 Miss Teen International. Jennifer Colon, Miss Puerto Rico first runner up was said to have rejected the offer to replace Mayra. It appears too, that Magali Febles, pageant organizer, revised the contract and it was said that the Mayra’s contract is different from the contract that Ingrid Rivera had signed when she was Miss Puerto Rico 2008.

But whatever it is, Primera Hora, trusted Puerto Rican newspaper, have just published an article that all Mayra’s dethronement issues were just rumors. The newspaper also stated that Mayra didn’t receive any letter from Magali dethroning her and that Mayra will still be the Puerto Rico’s representatives for the 2009 Miss Universe pageant.

Maybe the reason why Mayra received such controversies because she has what it takes to be the next Miss Universe titleholder. As of now, she was the crowds’ bet in the Miss Universe pageant.

Mayra wore a boxing gear during the costume competition. She wore gloves, hooded robe, and a championship belt bearing the Coat of arms of Puerto Rico.
