Jesinta Campbell Won Miss Australia Universe 2010 Despite Struggling In Q&A Portion

Jesinta Campbell won the Miss Australia 2010 title held at Sofitel Hotel in Sydney on June 17, 2010. Jesinta is 18 years old journalism student from Gold Coast, Queensland, the major tourist destination in Australia. She is Australia’s representative in the upcoming international Miss Universe pageant which will be held on August 23. Among the judges of the said event were designer Peter Morrissey, creative director Rodd Martin, radio personality Sami Lucas, TV presenter for the Seven Network Kylie Gillies, and Marie Claire editor Jackie Frank.

“I feel so privileged to be able to represent my country overseas at an international level, it’s absolutely incredible!”

Jesinta couldn’t believe that she’ll bring home the crown. She expected that she’d come in fifth for she struggled in the “Q&A” portion. Despite becoming terribly tongue tied when asked about the skin health issues under the sun in Australia, Jesinta still won the title.

“Well how I think I can make difference as Miss Universe Australia, any fathers are role model to young children and… I’m very passion about young children. I’m passion about helping fitness so I’m all about promoting outdoor lifestyle, healthy living but there are other ways to be healthy and it doesn’t always have to be outdoors in the sun. And if we are in the sun, then we may to bring an awareness so that putting the skin…um..skin…k-keeping um….sorry…” Jesinta giggled.

“We need to focus on umm… keeping a good um… sorry…” Jesinta giggled and the crowd clapped their hands.

Then finally, Jesinta delivered her last statement with confidence and still with the same tone of voice.

“We need…We need to focus on ourselves and how we care for our skin. It’s important to have a good skincare routine so even when we are outdoors, we need to use sunscreen and drink lots of water. Thank you.”

Jesinta, who is also the ambassador for Muscle Sprouts (a children’s charity that aims to boost attitudes towards health and exercise), said in the press conference that she had a ‘mental blank’ and she thought everyone made mistakes.

Frank said that despite struggling in the Q&A portion, Jesinta deserves the crown for she has vibrancy, confidence, and poise just the way she carried herself down the catwalk that stood out from any other contestants.

The current Miss Australia titleholder, Rachael Finch, was the third runner-up in the Miss Universe 2009 pageant. Rachael got a total of 18.303 in the final competition score (combined score of swimsuit and evening gown), the second highest score next to Miss Dominican Republic Ada de la Cruz. Can Jesinta make it to the top 5?
