Tara Hoyos-Martinez was chosen among 35 other candidates and was crowned as Miss Great Britain 2010 at a gala held on May 2, 2010 at the ICC in Birmingham. She is the first Hispanic woman to win the Miss Great pageant (her parents are Colombian). The judges of this event are Britain’s Next Top Model 2008 winner Alex Evans, Managing Director of Malmaison Hotels, Robert Cooke, Radio 1 DJ Dev Griffin, CEO and Creative Director of Sandstorm Boutique, Naomi John, Big Brother 2009 winner Sophie Reade, former Manchester United soccer player Lee Sharpe, Chief investment officer UBS O’Connor Global Currency & Rates Program, Michael J.T.Dudley, Peak Performance Coach and Trainer, Tosin Ogunnusi, British Lions, England & Harlequins rugby player, Ugo Monye, Nico Mirallegro, and Miss Universe Great Britain 2008 winner Lisa Lazarus.

The 19-year old Tara is a student of Medicinal and Biological Chemistry at the Manchester Metropolitan University in North West England and she speaks Spanish and French. She plans to pursue a post-graduate degree in medicine to become a surgeon and also improve health services in developing countries.

Tara couldn’t believe that she’ll win the title. This is the first time that Great Britain choses someone with Latin roots and she was surprised when her name was called as the winner. She was very thankful to the Latino community for supporting her through social networks like Facebook.

Tara took home the following prizes: Peak Performance Programme training with coach Tosin Ogunnusi, contract with Vibe Models, a wardrobe of clothes from Dress-Stop.com, shoes from A La Moda, swimwear from Sandstorm Boutique, vouchers from Debenhams, jewellery from Hultquist which creates unique feminine and bohemian fashion jewellery, and an all-expenses-paid three week trip to Miss Universe 2010 pageant. Aside from the title, she also won “Miss Charity” special award for being the largest amount (£1,500.00) raised for the The Joshua Foundation – an organization that supports children with terminal cancer.

Latina were always the favorites to win the Miss Universe pageant. They always have big chances of winning compare to other culture. According to the director of Vibe, Paula Abbandonato, South American representatives always get a good position in the Miss Universe pageant and having Tara as Great Britain’s representative was a good choice. TRIVIA: Tara has a tattoo of his father’s name on her back as a tribute to her late father.

Clair Cooper was called “English’ Rose.” She is actually the one who represented England at the Miss Earth 2007 pageant where she placed 1st place. She was also 2nd runner up Miss Great Britain 2007. She made it to the top 20 of “Miss England 2006” and was “South County Runner Up.” Aside from National beauty pageants she also joined regional beauty pageants. She won “Miss Westminster 2007” title and first place in “2006 Miss London“.
