Lady Fernanda Mina Lastra was crowned Miss Ecuador 2010 on March 25, 2010 at the CEMEXPO (El Centro de Exposiciones y Convenciones de la Mitad del Mundo). She is the third Afro-Ecuadorian woman to be crowned Miss Ecuador. Even though first runner-up Ana Galarza of Tungurahua and second runner-up Andrea Suarez of Loja were the crowd’s favorites, Mina beat them in the Q&A portion. The judges in the Miss Ecuador 2010 beauty pageant are former Quito beauty queen Macarena Valarezo, Peruvian singer Yuli Maiocchi, popular Ecuadorian singer Pamela Cortes, Miss Latina Ecuador 2006 Karla Caicedo, fashion designer Fabricio Celleri, and jewelry designer Daniela Kronfle.

Lady is a 23 year-old journalism student at University of Guayaquil. Her simple life changed afer she was crowned as Miss Ecuador 2010. She is now well-known in her country and she has hectic schedule. She attends numerous national and international invitations and dealing with businessmen, press, local and national authorities is part of her daily activities. She had to abandon her study to prepare for the upcoming Miss Universe pageant and to fulfill her obligations and responsibilities as Miss Ecuador.

Lady was very happy after she was crowned as the most beautiful woman in Ecuador. Though she was able to impress the judge, she cannot please everyone to like her. According to elcomercio.com, most of the pageant fans were surprised after Lady was announced this year’s Miss Ecuador winner. Most of them criticized the judges decision. But other people said that she deserves the crown and she looks like a barbie. Some of her fans called her “black barbie.” Lady said in an interview made by Univision that she was a bit nervous in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant but she’s not upset nor discourage about the reactions and comments of other people. She said that she will do everything she can to win the Miss Universe 2010 title.
